On the news...

I just had a thought. I'm sitting here, watching Chadashot on channel 22, and something occured to me. I asked my fiance when or how often the news here broadcasts about what's going on in Iraq. He said just about never. Actually, besides for things that really concern Israel, they never report anything on the US. However, the US reports something concerning Israel just about every day. I mean, they were even reporting about the kidnapping incident here involving the Sephardic Rabbi's son and wife. We haven't reported anything about the Michael Jackson trial or BTK suspect, or even the Laci Peterson trial. They just don't concern us, so we don't care. What compells the US or any other country (I first read about the kidnapping in the UK newspaper, "The Scotsman") to report on every little detail that goes on here? Does anyone know how or if we can figure out how many times Israel is reported in international news in correlation to other countries, even the US? Why do they care so much? Anyways, that was my blue light special thought for the day. Until later.

Because sometimes Israel or the Israeli elite don't report on the US, it leads to very anti-American thinking. See my blog post here (http://amechad.blogspot.com
/2005/05/yediot-or-is-it-israel-goes-nuts.html)
and the linked articles from Yediot.

Think we can discuss this in Political Communication next Tuesday?

very interesting question, especially because there is such a pervasive attitude in Israel of anything "foreign" of anything American, ie English on most stores or t-shirts even if it doesn't make sense.
