Canada, Oh Canada

I don't know if to laugh or cry about this one.
As you all may know, there are a lot of Families from Gush Katif Staying in hotels around Jerusalem. As part of the plans to relocate them the mayor of Jerusalem offered those who stay and live in Jerusalem additional aid to get them going, as part of a strengthening Jerusalem plan. Although not limiting where they can live, the Mayor suggested that they move to Har-Homa, since the population is close to theirs (modern Orthodox) and they are building thousands of new homes there, and would be no problem to build some more.

All is good and well up until now. But then our great friends the Canadians found out about this horrible plan to build more houses in occupied territory. They actually filled a complaint with Israel to find out why those Jews who were kicked out of there home are going to move into a Settlement!! To clarify things, Har-Homa is a neighborhood inside Jerusalem, that happens to be on the other side of the "Green-Line." Just to set things strait, those kinds of places include small neighborhoods like, Gilo, French Hill, Neve Ya'akov, Pisgat Zeev, Talpiyot Mizrach, Ramat Eshkol, Ramot, ETC. So when we think of Har Homa next time think of those places.
Yet The Canadians have some sort of issue with this. But then again what's the worst that could happen if we piss off Canada??

More to the point it annoys me, Who the Hell do they think they are?? Is it not bad enough that these people have no home, no job, nothing? Now we have to worry about the Canadians making sure that the Israelis don't move into places that are not recognized by them! Hmm... Why don't we go a step further: part of the plan was to move some of the Gush Katif People to the Galil. But wait didn't we take that land over in 1949? oh ya, maybe we should make sure not to have anyone build new houses there either??

The Canadians should go and find themselves something else to keep them going and happy and leave us alone!!

More problems from around the world is not what you need now, especially from the Canadians.

I did not know about this, and thank you for bring it to our attention.

Be well.

OY: I don't understand why you are suddenly suprised by Canada's reaction? The Israeli Government (!!!) has been clearly telling the Gush Katif refugees that they are NOT allowed to move anywhere in Yehuda vShomron, or they will forfeit their compensation packages. The Minhelet SELA has been telling this to everyone for the past 10 days. The jump from Yehuda/Shomron to including East Jerusalem is so miniscule -- what's the big deal if Canada mentions it?

The only bright side, is that the lawyers working on behalf of the Gush Katif refugees have told me that the government and SELA have no legal basis to withhold compensation based on where the refugees move to.

Oleh, nice post! Be'ezrat Hashem and some good Jewish legal work the refugees (what are they calling the former residents of Gush Katif in Israel these days?) can find a home wherever they please. But this is really getting out of hand (it has been for a while though). I mean what right does Sharon have to tell these displaced Jews where to live in order to get compensated for their belongings.

I've generally agreed with Sharon or at least tried to understand him but it's looking more and more like he's gone awal(sp?)and that it's about time for a new P.M. Who knows...perhaps even Peres would be a better option!?
