Doing My Part

Doing my part in the name of free speech. (hat tip: Captain's Quarters)

hey, OC: first of, in my humble opinion the Mohammad cartoons were in bad taste and just plain stupid. But you making a point of showcasing them on your site is, once again in my humble opinion, not that bad for a couple of reasons:

1. not as many people will be insulted; only the opposite.

2. you're voicing your support for freedom of speech rather than supporting the hate-mongering going on.

3. your blog has become a lot more interesting and I've spend some quality time skimming your articles.

Be'tikva, Eitan.

Thank you for those kind words, Eitan. Yeah, I totally agree. I'm not showing them because I believe they're funny. I believe any "cartoons" depicting religion or race in a disgusting manner is tasteless. But, as long as we have free speech, we should defend the right of stupidity, not apologize for it. Whenever we apologize for for our freedoms, we let fanatacism win a little more. We are in two countries fighting for democracy and our way of life. While men and women are dying to secure those rights, politicians in Europe, America, and all over the free world are apologizing for them.

They are, in essence, spitting on our freedoms and defiling the graves of the men and women who have died to ensure our freedom of speech. We have nothing to be sorry for. We have nothing to apologize for. I, personally, will try to do my part to ensure the continuation of free speech and not let violence and extremism win. I believe that's all any of us can do.
