The morning after...

It's the morning after the elections, and you can truly feel the headache coming along from is going to be a long 3 years (till the next elections).
But we all know that already.
The good news is although the right doesn't have the 60 seats it wanted in these elections, the left doesn't have the same in order to do what Olmert wants to do to this country. So you can wait a bit before buying your plane ticket out of here. The only way I see him building a coalition is with either Shas or YB. Both parties know that their voters do not see the "hitkansut" as the way to go. If Shas were to vote on a plan like that they can kiss the next elections goodbye.

What will happen, I think, Is that in lack of an ability to resolve the Borders issue, Israel will have 4 years to focus on it's (many) social problems. And we have the right parties to do so. Olmert is not a socialist, he actually really believes in what Bibi did here in the past 3 years, and he isn't going to let Peretz Destroy all of that. So we found a nice balance there.
Lieberman wants to deal with crime, I hope they let him. He is a person that is not afraid of doing anything, and I think he will go after the Crime Families in Israel that have long ago become a real threat to this country. With the Gimlaim (retieries), well they want one thing, that people should take care of their elders, I happen to like that idea.

And if not, if Olmert does try to move people out of homes anytime in the next 100 years, well he has a lot of people waiting for him there. The Hitnatkut was an Interesting concept (much like Oslo) that is blowing up in our faces, Just yesterday a Katyusha (same as Hezbollah fires form South Leb.) was fired into Israel, and I am sure there are more to come.

One note about the Gimlaim. They did not get 7 seats worth of old voters. Most of the people who voted for them, where very young people who did not have anyone else to vote for and did not want to put a white note in (white notes are meaningless). This should be a wake up call to all the parties: clean your selves up and make your selves something that is worth voting for, since at the moment you are all BAD.

Wow, honey, great post. I really like it. Yeah, I totally agree. If Olmert tried to do the disengagements that he's thinking about, he's going to have millions of people protesting in the streets, many more soldiers and officers disobeying orders (with the sheer raw emotions still radiating from the last disengagement), and a whole country revolting to collapse the government. A referendum will not be able to be prevented now.

Steven,
Actually no one really knows what it means. I havwe read a lot of the commentary about this new interesting sittuation and everyone seems to think certain things and I tend to disagree on them.

It will be difficult to make decisions in this coalition since no matter who is in it, they will be pulling in many directions. Labour wants the social stuff while Kadimah is more Bibi economics (Thacherism, Ragen ETC.) Shas is dying to get back into the coalition after being away from power for 3 years, but they to will have a price. More than that, Shas will not agree to the retreat that Olmert is planning (some of it's voters live in those areas - and they want to be seen as the new Likud party).
We also have GIL (the retireies) - they want social benefits for their interst group, but no one knows how they think on the National level (I don't think they know yet either).
one last not is Internal Kadima, There are a lot of people who are going to want to become ministers, and might be very unhappy when they learn they won't be. So we might see some internal fighting going on there as well, after all the Glue that held them all together (the Elections) is over now.
We will be alot smarter in a few days when the Negotiations start,

the only thing that makes me feel so sure that all of olmerts saber rattling at the settlers is for naught is the idiocy that is the make up of the kadima party, any party with tzhai hanegbi and dalia itzhak serving together is going to paralyze itself to infighting
