Boycott Israel

The British are at it again. After Last year's AUT issue - where they wanted to boycott the Israeli academia, now comes Natfhe's (National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education) turn.

That's fine with me - although I want to know to what extent the boycott is, are they going to boycott All Israeli Students and Teachers?? Maybe they will follow the Arab Boycott (that worked so well) and boycott anyone who works with Israeli Universities.
All I want to do is make sure that if they do boycott the Israeli academia that they go all the way with it.
That means they do not accept any research done In Israel, and they do not allow any of their students to use ANY source from someone who got their Degree in Israel.
Further more - any developments that come out of Israel should not be used - let's say something to do with HIV research - should be ignored - or any advancement for that matter.

Of course this is nonsense and once again they will be shooting themselves in the foot. What will happen is that Israeli professors will go and teach in other schools around the world while passing on the knowledge gained there.

All I know is that for a group that claims to be part of "higher education" - they are really Stupid.

See, there's one thing I don't get. Boycott is supposed to be an extreme form of protest against a completely atrocious institution. It's done as a matter of principle, at the cost of harming themselves. Why do these teachers *care* about Israel and everything that's going on so much that they are ready to shoot themselves in the foot? After all, they are an organization, not a bunch of college students, who can afford to let their ideology dictate their behavior. It baffles me because it's so irrational, so against one's self-interest in such an obvious way. Then again, there's no reason to be shocked, everything considered.

I agree that such a boycott is counter-productive: it will simply stifle debate. I wouldn't support it at all.
