New Updates: Day 8, 7/19/06

6:53 PM: Channel 2: Syrian President Assad has asked for a cease-fire. US Secretary of State Rice replied that the conditions aren't right.

At least 5 soldiers, on top of the 2 killed, have been injured and one Hezbollah terrorist killed in the fighting on the northern border.

Clashes are still going on Nablus. One soldier was lightly injured when a fire-bomb was thrown at him. Some Arabs also opened fire on IDF troops a short while ago, but there are no reported injuries.

6:40 PM: Channel 2 has restated that it was only the 2 children that were killed, not 3, as a result of the Katyusha that fell on a building in Nezareth. There are also now at least 15 injured from the attack in Nezareth.

One of the names of the names of the killed soldiers has been released:
Yonatan Hadasi zt"l, 21, from Kibbutz Merhavia

The IDF is currently firing artillery barages at Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.

6:09 PM: Channel 2: Two Israeli soldiers have been killed in the fighting on northern border.

Arutz 7 is also stating that 3 people were killed in the Katyusha attack in Nazareth, including 2 children. Maariv on-line is also stating 3 people, so I will take that as a confirmation that the death toll in the Nazareth attack is now 3. Channel 2 also just confirmed it.

The IAF hit a Hezbollah bunker in Beirut today. They also hit several roads that Hezbollah uses to transport weapons. They have hit a vehicle that several Hezbollah terrorists tried to use to evacuate an area from which they had just fired Katyushas.

According to Arutz 7 intelligent sources, Hezbollah has been funding Islamic Jihad and Fatah terrorist actions against Israel.

Army and police personelle have been able to subdue the overwhelming crowd in Nazareth and are dilligently working to get the remaining trapped and injured out of the building that was hit by a Katyusha.

5:36 PM: Channel 2: 2 people were killed and at least a dozen wound after a Katyusha hit a building in Nazareth just a short while ago. As we're watching hundreds of neighboring residents are attempting to force themselves into the building that was hit. There is smoke and fire coming out of the building, and the police, recue, and IDF personelle are attempting to restrain the gathering crowd from further danger.

Jpost is reporting 3 people killed, not 2, in the Nezareth Katyusha attack. When we have further concrete information, we'll let you know. We know there are definitely still people trapped in the burning building.

More Katyushas continue to fall all over the north, including Nazareth and Afula.

4:00 PM: Channel 2: Over 80 Katyusha have fallen in the north, in just the past few hours.

3:23 PM: Channel 2 : More Katyushas have just hit Carmiel.

In Nablus, the IDF destroyed the Muqata and arrested over 200 terrorists. (*Jameel, are you OK?*)

Katyushas just hit Haifa. No reports of injuries, as of now

3:15 PM: Watching Channel 2: Sirens have gone off again in Haifa. People are running to safe rooms and shelters

Katyushas just hit in Tiberias. There are reported injuries, but no more information has been given at this time.

Katyushas have also fallen in the Rosh Pina and Kiryat Shmona area. There are no reported injuries.

There are riots going on in Nablus.

The IDF is still engaged in heavy fire exchanges on the northern border.

Katyushas hit the Tzomet Golani (Golani Intersection) area. There are reported injuries.

Katyushas just hit Emek Ha'Chulah. It is reported to have hit a house, and there are several reported injuries.

2:53 PM: Channel 2 is reporting that according to sources, the terrorist that police and IDF were looking for, in the Sharon, has been caught. We'll let you know when we have further information.

2:42 PM: Arutz 7 is reporting that one person has been seriously injured in the latest Katyusha barrage in Tzfat, a short while ago.

There was an operation in Shchem (Nablus) last night, and the IDF is still there. They have already destroyed the PA's Ministry of Interior building, where terrorists were hiding out. More details to come.

2:27 PM: Channel 2 is reporting that the lates Katyushas that fell on Emek Izrael have caused a fire, forcing elderly people to quickly evacuate an old-age home.

*We are very sorry we couldn't update sooner. There were rolling black-outs this morning, and all of the country's internet servers have been done up until now. A lot has been happening since this morning, so let's catch you up.*

1:50 PM: There is an all out search this afternoon for a suspected suicide terrorist in the Sharon area. The IDF is believed to have caught the driver of the terrorist, but, as of now, they are on an all out man-hunt for the actual bomber. The event started this morning after a car exploded near Kfar Saba. There were no reported injuries.

As we are watching Channel 2, Israeli troops have been engaged in heavy fire exchanges with Hezbollah terrorists. Troops are also being massed along the border, more reservists were called up, in what looks to be the preparations for a ground assault.

Already, over 100 Katyushas were fired into northern Israel this morning. Among them, again, Haifa, Tzfat, Aco, Nahariya, and Carmiel. No reports of injuries above shock.

The IDF has confirmed that one of the rockets fired from Gaza into Israel yesterday was a Katyusha and not a Kassam.

Kassam rockets continue to be fired into the Western Negev from Gaza. This comes as America is evacuating its citizens from the US COnsulate in Gaza.

Also in Gaza news, the government has allowed the IDF to open the Karni and Nahal Oz crossings to allow foods and other humanitarian goods to come into the Strip.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzippy Livni met earlier today with an EU representative. In the meeting, she told the Minister that Israel would only discuss negotiation matters after Israel had allowed the military "to do what it has to do". The EU representative stated that he wants the violence to end, but did not mention the possibility of a cease-fire at this time.

On a lighter side, today marks the take-off, tomorrow the arrival, of the second of numerous Nefesh B'Nefesh flights bringing hundreds and thousands of new immigrants from North America. Despite the security situation, the plane will arrive tomorrow morning as scheduled. Next month, over 600 Olim from France are expected to arrive and have stated that they have no plans of cancelling the flight. Over 2,000 new North American immigrants are expected to arrive this summer.
