The Bane of Israel's Existence

Namely, the Histadrut, or the organization in charge of the unions in this country. Unions are a whole different breed in Israel. They're not at all like the Teacher's Unions or Auto Unions in the States. No, no. The Histadrut, while vehemently claiming to the contrary, is really a political organization that uses the average working man and woman as pawns in their political games of control. Thank you, Mr. Amir Peretz. At the creation of the country, the Histadrut and socialism was extremely vital to the country's existence. In fact, when the inteligentsia of the German Jews came in one of the waves of Aliyah, they attempted to institute a capitalist system in the country, and it failed miserably. However, the Histadrut's time and place has come and gone. Israel is becoming a thriving capitalist society and economy, and the Histadrut is attempting to prevent its drowning. The Histadrut has, over and over again, declared nation-wide strikes in order to gain control and leverage over the government to get them to do something they wanted. It had nothing to do with the people, or the workers' wants and needs. They are on strike again, today. This is precisely why Bibi Netanyahu faught so vigorously to privatize many public industries. It was so the Histadrut wouldn't have a strangle-hold over the country and have the ability to shut the entire country down for no reason other than their private political desires.

Bottom line: Today's strike shows one more time why all of the country's industries, i.e. phone, electricity, etc. have to be privatized. No country should belong in the hand's of one person's hands. The Histadrut is not fooling any-one. The entire country knows that they don't give a damn about the well-being and social condition of the workers it represents. It's time to end this corrupt organization and take the final leap into a truly capitalist society.
